Huddersfield Leisure Centre turning pink for Baby Loss Awareness Week 2020
Huddersfield Leisure Centre will be illuminated in pink lights on 15th October from 7pm to show support for Baby Loss Awareness Week 2020 and Forget Me Not Children’s Hospice which provides vital services to families facing or living with the loss of their baby.
The annual awareness week (9th-15th October), now in its 18th year, is an opportunity for bereaved parents, families and friends, to commemorate babies’ lives and to raise awareness about pregnancy and baby loss to drive for the improvements that are needed for parents and families now and in the future.
Huddersfield Leisure Centre, other landmarks across the region and Forget Me Not Children’s Hospice are coming together to encourage the local community to join them in commemorating babies’ lives by lighting a candle on 15th October or by leaving a dedication to their little one at www.forgetmenotchild.co.uk/babylossawareness.
Chair of the Board of Trustees from Kirklees Active Leisure, Dawn Stephenson, said: “We hope turning Huddersfield Leisure Centre pink will spark conversations about baby loss and give local bereaved parents and families an opportunity to talk about their precious babies.”
Lis Meates, director of service delivery and development at Forget Me Not, said: “The coronavirus has had a major impact on people being able to access the care and support they need and has exacerbated grief and responses to baby loss. Now more than ever, we want to come together to let those families who have lost a baby know they are not alone. So, we invite you to show your support for those who have experienced the loss of a baby – whether or not you have been directly affected yourself.”
