We Are Recruiting For New Trustees!

An exciting opportunity to join KAL as a Trustee!

KAL (Kirklees Active Leisure) is first and foremost a Charity, dedicated to providing good quality, customer-focused leisure services to the people of Kirklees and the surrounding area. KAL is a not-for-profit organisation, with any surpluses achieved being re-invested back into the local facilities and services we provide.

While we work closely in partnership with Kirklees Council, we are legally independent from the local authority, with the KAL Board of Trustees ultimately responsible for the Charity.

KAL has a Board of 12 Trustees, looks after 12 major leisure facilities across the Kirklees district of West Yorkshire and has over 700 employees. KAL is the largest employer of under 25’s in the Kirklees area. A new, £15m+ leisure centre – Spen Valley Leisure Centre – is currently also under construction at the site of the former Spenborough Swimming Pool and is due to be completed by the end of 2021/beginning of 2022.

With a new strategy due to be launched in early 2021, providing KAL with much more of a health focus and a push to attract new customers to make use of the services provided by KAL, as well as recovering from the impact of COVID-19, there has never been a more challenging and exciting time to consider joining KAL as a Trustee and helping to give something positive back to the local communities of Kirklees.

We are looking for Trustees who can actively contribute further to KAL and can help to address the huge challenges that the Charity faces.

We are, in particular, seeking new Trustees who:

· Have experience, knowledge and understanding of the wider UK health sector;

and/or

· Have experience of the wider sport and leisure sector, given that KAL’s Articles specifically allow for the appointment of a Trustee who is representative of the sport and leisure sector;

and/or

· Are a suitably qualified accountant;

and/or ·

Are a suitably qualified lawyer/ solicitor;

and/or

· Reflect the demographic diversity of Kirklees, with expressions of interest form BAME communities, women and individuals with additional needs especially welcomed.

KAL Trustee roles are voluntary and therefore unpaid, but with reasonable expenses provided.

For further information please request an information pack from recruitment@kal.org.uk. You will then have the opportunity to consider further background information about KAL and the Trustee role and, should you still be interested, be asked to submit an Expression of Interest form and CV.

The closing date for all potential Trustee applications is Friday 9th October 2020.
