KAL Newsletter - Week 10 - Wellbeing

Over the last few weeks we have been giving you ideas of how you can incorporate the 5 ways to wellbeing into your week by doing something little each day, & this week is no different;


Monday – Connect


Try Les Mills on Demand with a friend!


Choose your favourite Les Mills class you used to go to together, sign up to their free 60-day trial and take part. Once you’re done why not have a virtual smoothie or coffee via skype/FaceTine, Zoom etc and share your sweaty faces!!


Keeping in touch with friends & loved ones is so important during this time & this could be a great way!

Tuesday – Get Active


 Getting Active doesn’t mean you have to do lots of intense workouts, going for a walk or bike ride is a great start.


If you’re looking for an instructed class or just some ideas then have a look at 10 today from BBC. These are workouts designed for older people and people new to exercise or looking for a low intensity workout.


Why not take your device out into your garden and try it outside too?


Wednesday – Give


We know these times are hard for everyone but they are particularly challenging for charity’s & food banks.


You can find your nearest Food Bank by doing a quick web search or we would suggest Batley Food Bank as it is close to some of our KAL centres. When you’re doing your next food shop why not buy a couple of extra items, if you can and drop them off at any of the locations listed. If that is not possible then they will always be grateful for a cash donation, you can find out more about that here. 


Give what you can, if you can.


Thursday – Keep Learning


#ThisIsPE is designed to support parents and teachers to educate and entertain primary school children at home during the school closures. There are a lot of high-profile exercise videos available, but far less genuine physical education. Each #ThisIsPE activity is designed to be fun, replicable at home, and can be done with things you can find around the house.


All videos come from current PE teachers, or PE teachers now working elsewhere in the sector.


This is PE is a free to use resource to help you deliver specific PE sessions at home with the kids from Yorkshire sport.


This week the focus is on coordination


Friday – Take Notice


During times when we can start to feel a bit fed up it can be difficult to motivate ourselves to cook properly and we look to quick treats to make us feel comforted.


Whilst that is absolutely fine as a treat it is important to try and not make that the normal & keep a balanced diet.


Change 4 life have some amazing dinner recipes suitable for the whole family that are delicious as well as being part of a balanced diet. Why not get the whole family involved in cooking too.
